I had spent a couple of hours shivering on watch at a forest edge near Länghem before giving up and starting home, disappointed to have made no photographs. I was walking along the field edge beneath a clear February sky when the common buzzard appeared—perhaps to investigate me. I had spotted buzzards here a couple of times while driving past, but this one chose to turn up just as I was leaving. For that, I was grateful.
