A red squirrel perched on a snow-covered branch in a winter woodland, its fur dusted with fresh snow as flakes drift through the air. The image captures a quiet moment of alert curiosity in a cold Nordic forest setting.

This was one of the first photographs I made with my 70–200mm lens. In Länghem, Tranemo Municipality, snow was falling and the temperature hovered just below freezing as the red squirrel sat with fresh snow on its coat. I almost felt sorry enough for it to invite it into the warmth—but you cannot bring a tree rat into the house just because it is cute. Besides, it looked rather well fed.
